Important developments for Lithuania in EP plenary session

It is impossible to call this year`s third EP plenary session boring. For a long time, there have not been so many important and relevant questions for Lithuania on the EP agenda. To name a few, including, EP`s opinion on the EU long term budged which was negotiated in February after great struggle of EU leaders,  reform of the Common Agricultural Policy, change of the number of EP seats allocated to each Member State, important discussions on foreign policy matters, genders equality, rights of air flight passengers etc. (Read more...)

Tibet in the spotlight not only in the EP corridors, but also in the streets of Brussels

L. Donskis urges Turkmenistan to free prisoners of conscience

The member of the European Parliament Leonidas Donskis together with 23 colleagues have signed a letter addressed to the Ambassador of Turkmenistan urging to free prisoners of conscience in Turkmenistan and to provide the EP with the information about the charges, current whereabouts and wellbeing of three particular persons. EP plenary: French president, the multiannual financial framework and car noise levels

On February 4 - 7, the EP plenary session took place in Strasbourg. During this session the MEPs were addressed by two presidents, French and Tunisian. Other discussions featured following topics: the forthcoming EU multiannual budget, pharmacy, fisheries and car production markets, corporate social responsibility and, of course, human rights. Anne Applebaum`s book: an intellectual challenge for the Eastern European academics

Yesterday, invited by the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) political group, a Pulitzer Prize winner, American journalist Anne Applebaum has visited the European Parliament in Brussels and presented her new book "Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern Europe, 1944 - 56". China: "modern" capitalism and horror stories

Yesterday, the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) together with the EP vice-president for human rights and democracy and the colleague of Leonidas Donskis from the ALDE Group, Edward McMillan-Scott organised a conference "Religious persecution by China: a horror story". The conference aimed to make known internationally the great scale of religious prosecutions and horrible "re-education" methods used by the Chinese communist party. (Read more...)
