First plenary session in 2012: the new President of the EP, Danish Presidency and criticism towards Hungary

The first plenary session of 2012, which took place this week in Strasbourg, was unusual as most of its agenda consisted of elections of a new EP leadership - the new European Parliament President, Vice-Presidents and Quaestors. Recurring topics in Lithuanian MEPs` written declarations

During the first four months of his third year at the European Parliament MEP Leonidas Donskis expressed his approval to written declarations in the areas of humanitarian assistance, health, science and education, policies regarding disabled people, social inclusion. Meanwhile, MEP V. Tomaševski registered a written declaration closely related to the written declaration on the safety nuclear power plants in the EU neighbourhood, which was submitted by L. L. Donskis addresses N. Nazarbajev concerning events in Western Kazakhstan

MEP Leonidas Donskis, together with his colleagues addressed President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in an open letter expressing their concern about the events taking place in Western Kazakhstan, where police were using weapons against the protesting employees of oil companies, killing around 70 people.
