The country`s secret services and law enforcement agencies, instead of defending the constitutional order which is based on human rights and freedom, often take an arbitrary position and pose a threat to democracy.

Lithuanian MEPs belonging to the three largest political groups in the EP have registered a written declaration on the safety of nuclear power plants in the EU’s neighbourhood. Leonidas Donskis (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, ALDE), Radvile Morkunaite-Mikuleniene (European People’s Party, EPP), Zigmantas Balcytis, and Justas Vincas Paleckis (Socialists & Democrats, S&D) united their efforts in order to achieve a wider attention from the EU’s institutions, member states, and international organisations on an issue which is very important to Lithuania, namely the safety of the nuclear power plants on the borders of Lithuania and the EU, to be built in Belarus and the Kaliningrad area.

On 29-30 April MEP Leonidas Donskis attended a conference dedicated to the issues of human rights in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. L. Donskis was invited to read the main opening statement at the conference held by the universities of Bologna and Sarajevo, "In recognition of diversity: human rights and reconciliation challenges." Several years ago I could only dream that one day I will stand for Lithuania’s interests at the European Parliament. I raise my country`s card; the president of the General Assembly gives me the floor. I get to the stand and I give my speech against the resolution of the European Economic and Monetary Affairs committee, which did not come up with any innovations. Delegates start a racket.
