Z. Bauman speaks to a packed hall in the European Parliament

Yesterday, one of the European Parliament conference rooms hosting up to 300 people was packed. Not only the EP staff and representatives from other EU institutions, diplomats, members of the academic community, but also guests from Lithuania, France, Italy and other countries gathered here to meet one of the most significant social thinkers of our age Professor Zygmut Bauman. A space in the European Parliament soon to be named The Baltic Way

European Parliament will soon have a space called "The Baltic Way". The EP Bureau composed of the EP President Martin Schulz along with 14 Vice-Presidents and the five Quaestors has decided to give this name to a corridor in the first floor of the Altiero Spinelli building.

L. Donskis participated in Lithuanian Days at Aarhus University

In the end of last week, the Member of the European Parliament visited the Aarhus town in Denmark where he participated in the Lithuanian Days organised by the biggest university in Denmark. On this occasion, L. Donskis has given a lecture to the academic community of the Aarhus University called "Identity of small nations and dilemmas of the European Union - Lithuanian perspective". EP Foreign Affairs Committee confidently in favour of the Donskis Annual Report

Last week, with 47 votes in favour and 4 abstentions the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs adopted the draft EP Annual Report on Human Rights and Democracy in the World 2011 and European Union`s Policy on the Matter prepared by Leonidas Donskis.

October plenary sessions featuring EU budget, "Magnitsky list", Belarus, Georgia and Sakharov Prize

This week not one, but even two plenary sessions were organised in Strasburg - an unprecedented event in the history of the European Parliament. This was done by convening two two-day sessions with a break of one day instead of one four-day session. (Read more...)
