The efforts of Leonidas Donskis bring caste-based discrimination to the highest EU level

Today in Strasbourg, the members of the European Parliament adopted a resolution on caste-based discrimination. This is the first strategic document in the EU history dedicated to this particular problem which affects more than 250 million people in the world. A resolution prepared in the EP Development committee is a result of long and consistent efforts by the Lithuanian MEP and human rights coordinator of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), Leonidas Donskis. Books of Leonidas Donskis presented at Waterstones bookshop

Last Thursday, Leonidas Donskis represented Lithuania in Brussels not as a member of the European Parliament, but as a book author. An evening of books of Leonidas Donskis was held at “Waterstones Brussels” in cooperation with the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the European Union on the occasion of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council. Vilnius Summit as a turning point not only for the Eastern Partnership programme

Books of Kristina Sabaliauskaite presented in the European Parliament

This week one more event initiated by Leonidas Donskis took place in the European Parliament in Brussels. On the occasion of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council, a meeting with a famous Lithuanian writer and art historian Kristina Sabaliauskaite living in London was organised. On Tuesday, the event held in the European Parliament’s library attracted more than one hundred participants including both the Lithuanian community in Belgium who admire Sabaliauskaite’s talent and other EU citizens wishing to know more about the Lithuanian literature. Before the elections in Azerbaijan crackdown on civil society

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan on October 9 give the president Ilham Aliyev a chance to be re-elected for the third time since his victory in 2003.
