Shakespeare’s Politics
Inside the vast new auditorium at the European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk, Leonidas Donskis fizzes with excitement. Having recently finished five years of service as a Member of the European Parliament, he is promoting his new book and revelling in the exchange of ideas about Europe and its neighbours. His topic is literature, or rather the ideas that literature wrestles with and conveys. “Few political scientists predicted the horrors of the twentieth century,” he declares. The banality of evil: The case of Vladimir Bortko
That evil can be banal we learn from Hannah Arendt’s book Eichmann in Jerusalem: The Report on the Banality of Evil published in 1963.
