Sketches of modern cultural philosophy (second edition) -2009

Original title: "Moderniosios kultūros filosofijos metmenys (2 asis leidimas)" - 2009 m.
Leonidas Donskis. The suspicion that we live in an era of modern barbarism, where the creation of authentic forms of culture has stopped and where only the interpretation of past creations and the analysis of modern appearances, which haunted the representatives of pesimistic cultural philosohpy of the first part of the XX century, has only strenghtened in the beginning of the XXI century.

Why did entire epochs and cultures, which gave the world extraordinary art and philosophical thoughts, fade away? What connects us today with Shakespeare`s tragedies, Rembrant`s portraits and Bach`s choral preludes? Is this the same world-view, optics and form of belief or only a chronological, museum perspective? Will there still be any recognition or knowledge of great European art in a few centuries? Will our infinite relativism and the passion of denying everything destroy the force of identification? These questions were raised by cultural philosophers in the past and were analysed in a book born sixteen years ago, and newly published today. By no means have they lost their importance or relevance.

This book is constructed as a continuous, intensive, yet joyful dialogue with the greatest  cultural philosophical theories of the modern day. The book has tried to show the dramat and painful cultural philosophical balance between science and para-science, between philosophy and para-philosophy, between authentic reflection and utopia.
