This Wednesday and Thursday the first out of five short plenary sessions took place in the European Parliament in Brussels. Its agenda included the conclusions of the informal European Council meeting, sanctions on Iran, assessment of the Russian Duma elections (this issue is to be voted in the next session in Strasbourg). On the last day of January women researchers from various fields, who are members of the European Platform of Women Scientists (EPWS), gathered to the European Parliament in Brussels. The first plenary session of 2012, which took place this week in Strasbourg, was unusual as most of its agenda consisted of elections of a new EP leadership - the new European Parliament President, Vice-Presidents and Quaestors.
